Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Scottish Celtic Agate, Amethyst & Citrine Brooch. A beautiful antique Scottish Celtic pebble brooch from the Victorian era, c1860! Made of sterling silver the brooch features natural amethyst and citrine stones, along with Scottish agate's. The lovely oval design has Celtic characteristics including the central cross and ornate hand chased patterns.Distinct flat-top bevel edge citrine stones adorn each end and a faceted amethyst shimmers from the centre of the cross; stones rest in closed-back collets with foiling behind, adding a magical gleam at every turn! Four Scottish agate segments are interspaced and inlaid along the oval border, the green stone with small red spots typically known as bloodstone, and the reddish brown agate likely carnelian or jasper stones... All commonly known to be sourced from the Scottish mountains in the 19th century! The stylized oval shaped brooch is masterly hand chased to the surface with stunning Celtic-esque patterns. The raised budded (aka trefoil ends) cross gives a three dimensional appearance, and is also entirely hand chased with ornate patterns including a Celtic alike pattern surrounding the amethyst stone. An original pin and c-loop clasp attaches to the back. Such a striking work of art, and in fantastic condition considering the 160+ year age! In character to many 19th century sterling pebble pieces, no hallmarks or stamps are sighted to the piece - tests indicate sterling silver. A unique bonnie brooch with Scottish and Celtic elements wrapped into one. Sure to make a fine statement on the jacket lapel or scarf!
