Small antique sterling silver Victorian wishbone shape Scottish "pebble brooch" studded with red jasper, dark green agate, Montrose banded gray agate, and featuring a well rendered silver repoussé traditional Scottish thistle at the center. This is a lovely and well made piece from the late 1800s which has withstood the test of time. Original C clasp and hinged clip work well.

No marks, which is common for pieces from this time and place, but tests for 925 sterling silver. Length at longest point: 1-1/2 (3.8 cm). Width at widest point: 3/4 (1.9 cm).

Weight (as per my scale): 3.6 grams. Antique Victorian Scottish pebble jewelry refers to jewelry set with, or otherwise including, polished gemstones found in Scotland.

Polished agate and granite were cut into shapes and set in mosaic patterns, or intricately carved into bracelet panels, in silver (occasionally gold) jewelry, often using many colors in one piece. Genuine antique pebble jewelry is always one of a kind.

This jewelry came into fashion after Queen Victoria bought the Balmoral Castle estate in 1848. Please note that vintage and/or antique merchandise may have some degree of visible wear and/or patina.
