We have similar Scottish Agate and Art Nouveau items, which would pair nicely with this piece, for sale this week. Listing Description by: Angela A. Markings: "925" on the bale. Color: semi-translucent bands of red, grey, cream, and white hues.

The stone(s) appear to be untreated, but we are not certified gemologists. Stone(s) have been tested and guaranteed using a professional Presidium Duo refractive, heat, and hardness tester. Bale opening measurements: 5.3 mm length, 2.3 mm width. Handmade during the Art Nouveau era in Scotland. The pendant features a beautiful, rare Scottish agate stone, its unique banded hues beautifully displayed by its cabochon cut.

A trefoil and floral design accents the stone's bezel setting. The pendant connects to a circular design adorned with a ribbon bow motif, which dangles from the bale in the lavaliere style. Completed with a standard bale in order to be strung on antique chains or necklace. There is a very tiny nick to the face of the Scottish agate, which would be difficult to see when worn. Tarnish on the sterling silver can be removed with a buffing. The price has been reduced to reflect this. This listing is for the item only.

This was very true due to the gorgeous designs that came out of this period. This era focused on women and the beauty of nature and the pieces were often large.

Enamel was a common material used in Art Nouveau jewelry as the period was more about the importance of the design over the materials used to create it. The Art Nouveau period happened before the start of the first World War, when mass manufacturing took over the production. Of many products, including some jewelry. Scottish Agate jewelry originated in the beautiful country of Scotland, which has an abundance of chalcedony quartz gemstone, also known as agate, which comes in a huge variety of colors and patterns. It was this quality that attracted the Scots of antiquity to experiment with slicing the stones and placing them into metal settings.

Agate jewelry, or pebble jewelry, has been produced in Scotland for hundreds of years, though it was Queen Victoria's love affair with all things Scottish that brought this distinctive type of jewelry into vogue throughout the United Kingdom and abroad. It is sometimes accented with citrine, amethyst, and Cairngorm quartz. This item is in the category "Jewelry & Watches\Vintage & Antique Jewelry\Necklaces & Pendants".
