Here is a Classic Design Sterling Silver Hot Punch / Lemon Strainer Made pre-1810 by the Famous Scottish Silversmith, Robert Gray in Glasgow. The Piece was then Sent to Edinburgh to be Assayed and Hallmarked The Strainer can be Dated pre-1810 by the Maker's Mark, before Robert Gray's Son Joined Him in the Firm in 1810. This is an Excellent Example of a Hot Punch / Lemon Strainer with a Single Ornate Cast Handle with Circular Piercings and a Triple Reed Edge Trim A Functional Clip is Located Under the Handle to Secure the Strainer on the Edge of the Punch Bowl while Squeezing Lemons and Pouring Hot Water through the Strainer to Prepare Hot Rum or Brandy Punch, or, in Scotland, Hot Whisky Toddy. This Handsome Punch or Lemon Strainer measures 5½ Inches Across the Handle (14 cms) and measures 3½ Inches in Diameter (9 cms) and Weighs 2.4 Ounces (66 grams) of Hallmarked Sterling Silver. The Hallmarks include the Maker's Mark "RG" for Robert Gray of Glasgow, the Thistle Guarantee Mark for Scottish Sterling Silver and the Duty Mark the Head of King George the Third.
