Victorian Scottish Agate Bloodstone Red Citrine Sterling Silver Brooch Antique. We are currently accepting offers for this lovely antique Scottish agate, blood stone agate, red agate and faceted cairngorm citrine, sterling silver brooch, circa 1880's. Cairngorm citrine is native to the mountains of Scotland, the stone is a rich golden deep amber color. Cairngorm citrine has been used in Scottish Jewelry for centuries and is prized by collectors.
It is a quality piece with lovely chasing and a high claw setting. It is hand chased/ engraved.
The silverwork is detailed, well done and in excellent condition. The silver content is not marked, which is consistent with dating.
The center stone is citrine. It is perfect for wear in all seasons and it is sure to become a cherished heirloom. It measures 2 inches and weighs 27.8 grams. Its tube hinge and pin dates brooch to 1850 -1910 which is consistent with 1880 date provided by last owner. As is the craftsmanship and style. Safety claps appears to be a a replacement clasp. Handmade safety clasps came into use in or about 1910 an machine made in late 1930s. See photos for full description.
