Stunning hallmarked (1902-3) Sterling silver Scottish basket hilted broadsword display letter opener by Mackay & Chisolm of Edinburgh, complete with the original felt basket liner. These usually deteriorate over time and are seldom seen now. Mackay & Chisolm were renowned Silversmiths, Jewelers and medal makers, based in Princes Street, Edinburgh. They also specialized in desk items and Sgian Dubhs. Overall length is approximately 9 ¼ inches from blade tip to hilt end.Three fullers at the hilt end of the blade on the obverse (through the hallmarks) and reverse. Ornately decorated basket hilt, finely engraved. Original red felt basket liner. Weight is 67 grams (2 /38 ounces).
